Walking the Fragile Bridge

In a recent dream, I found myself walking across a vast, fragile bridge. Beneath me was an endless expanse of water—calm yet deep and unknowable. The bridge was weathered and barely holding together, its structure precarious but navigable. As I moved forward, I noticed others standing off to the side, watching me. Their expressions were distant, almost indifferent.

I called out to them, trying to explain why I was on the bridge and what I hoped to achieve. But they didn’t respond—they just stood there, misinterpreting my efforts as something self-serving or foolish.

When I woke, the meaning of the dream became clear. The bridge symbolized the connection I’m constantly trying to build between autistic authenticity and allistic understanding. The water below reflected the vast, unseen depths of autistic experiences—our emotions, intentions, and truths. And the people on the sidelines? They represented the allistic majority, observing but not truly seeing, project…
